While you may think you're getting a good deal when you're ordering firewood, guess again. There's many more numbers that need to be considered when making a decision on your firewood company. When buying firewood, you should have a relationship with a company that is consistent. Same quality all the time.
I have a funny story. A guy in the post office was on his phone, yelling at a guy who delivered him firewood. My mom overheard him and let him know that her son has kiln dried firewood. He called and we delivered the next day. While I was there, I saw why he was so upset. It was well short of a full cord, which he paid $250 for. It was more like 1/2 of a cord, but most customers don't measure. It was dirty and pieces were oddly shaped. I took out my moisture meter and it was over 40% (meter only goes to 40%). When you add the numbers of being shorted, time to correctly season the wood, and cleanliness, he paid over $600 per cord. Hardly worth the effort, especially when you are ordering in the cold months and looking for warmth. He was very pleased when he came home and found a half face cord of kiln dried firewood stacked in his breezeway. Dry, clean, bug free, and easy to light. Consistent! Every time! All the time! That saves you aggravation and money!
